Die Oper Dortmund ist ein architektonisches Highlight und prägt das Dortmunder Stadtbild. Das Foyer und damit der Weg, den die Besucher der Oper zurücklegen ist jedoch ziemlich zergliedert und unübersichtlich. Trotz zum Teil sehr hochwertiger Gestaltungselemente wünscht sich das Theater Dortmund für die Raumgestaltung neue Ideen um den Raum vor allem in seiner szenischen Erlebnisqualität aufzuwerten. Das Theater Dortmund lobt hierfür einen Ideenwettbewerb für Studierende des Fachbereich Design aus. Prof. Oliver Langbein und der Architekt Bernd Trümpler, beide Mitglieder von osa_office for subversive architecture, boten hierfür eine Summerschool mit täglichen Korrekturen an. Der 1. Preis soll im Anschluss zu einer Realisierung geführt werden. Für die Umgestaltung ist ein Budget von 30.000 € vorgesehen.
The Dortmund Opera House is an architectural highlight and a defining feature of the Dortmund cityscape. However, the foyer, and thus the route that opera visitors take, is rather disjointed and confusing. Despite some very high-quality design elements, the Dortmund Theatre would like to see new ideas for the interior design in order to enhance the space, especially in terms of the scenic quality of the experience. To this end, the Dortmund Theatre is holding a competition of ideas for students of design. Prof. Oliver Langbein and architect Bernd Trümpler, both members of osa_office for subversive architecture, offer a summer school with daily corrections. The 1st prize is to be realised afterwards. A budget of 30,000 € has been earmarked for the redesign.
Ein erster Preis
Eine simple und minimalistische Wegführung, die durch Lichtprojektion auf die Decke das ganze Foyer einnimmt.
Der japanische Garten wird neu gedacht und bespielt von außen nach innen das Erdgeschoss. Die geplottete Milchglasfolie mit verzerrter Typografie wird angestrahlt und wirft durch Licht-Schatten-Spiel die Wegführung auf die Decke, die spielerisch Illusion und Kommunikation schafft. Es entsteht eine Atmosphäre, die das sonst dunkle und schlichte Foyer in eine kleine Bühne verwandelt.
A simple and minimalist pathway that takes up the entire foyer through light projection on the ceiling.
The Japanese garden is rethought and plays from the outside to the inside of the first floor. The plotted frosted glass film with distorted typography is illuminated and casts the wayfinding onto the ceiling through a play of light and shadow, playfully creating illusion and communication. An atmosphere is created that transforms the otherwise dark and plain foyer into a small stage.
Ein zweiter Preis
Aurora Theater is a renovation of the foyer of the Opernhaus Dortmund. The aim was to improve the utilisation of the space and the orderly movement of the audience, to create a space with a theatrical and artistic atmosphere and to increase the experience of the theatre scene.
My concept was inspired by the Aurora Borealis. The wonderful theatre performances are like the Aurora Borealis at night, magnificent, stunning and evocative. The light is cast on the curtains creating a sense of Aurora in the theatre. The Curtain acts as a soft partition in the foyer dividing several areas, such as the gallery, the experience area and the conversation area. Curtain is also used in the corridor space between the main staircase and the garden, where strips of fabric from classic opera dialogue are hung to create an experiential space for dialogue with the libretto. The communication area has drapery around the tables, representing a relatively intimate area for conversation. There are two main materials used for the draping, curtains in translucent linen and string curtain. Signage Design is added to the entrace and 1. Floor and 2. Floor.
Das Aurora Theater ist eine Renovierung des Foyers des Opernhauses Dortmund. Ziel war es, die Raumnutzung und die geordnete Bewegung des Publikums zu verbessern, einen Raum mit theatralischer und künstlerischer Atmosphäre zu schaffen und das Erlebnis der Theaterszene zu steigern.
Mein Konzept wurde von der Aurora Borealis inspiriert. Die wunderbaren Theatervorstellungen sind wie die Aurora Borealis bei Nacht, prächtig, atemberaubend und stimmungsvoll. Das Licht wird auf die Vorhänge geworfen und erzeugt ein Gefühl von Aurora im Theater. Der Vorhang dient als weicher Raumteiler im Foyer, der verschiedene Bereiche wie die Galerie, den Erlebnisbereich und den Gesprächsbereich voneinander trennt. Der Vorhang wird auch im Korridor zwischen der Haupttreppe und dem Garten verwendet, wo Stoffstreifen aus klassischen Operndialogen aufgehängt sind, um einen Erlebnisraum für den Dialog mit dem Libretto zu schaffen. Im Kommunikationsbereich sind die Tische mit Stoffen umhüllt, die einen relativ intimen Bereich für Gespräche darstellen. Für die Drapierung werden hauptsächlich zwei Materialien verwendet: Vorhänge aus durchscheinendem Leinen und Fadenvorhänge. Die Beschilderung ist im Eingangsbereich und in der 1. und 2. Etage.

The Foyer is the space where we are extending the stage for the visitors. The visitor is given a chance to interact with the space in a way where they are becoming the performers while exploring the theater building.
Das Foyer ist der Raum, in dem wir die Bühne für die Besucher*innen erweitern. Der/Die Besucher*in hat die Möglichkeit, mit dem Raum auf eine Weise zu interagieren, bei der er/sie selbst zum Darstellenden wird, während er/sie das Theatergebäude erkundet.

Bloomopera steht für eine aufstrebende, antidiskriminierende und weltoffene Gesellschaft, ausgehend von den verschiedenen Kunstformen der Dortmunder Oper. Die Installation symbolisiert Vielfalt, Lebensfreude und die Stärke eines Kollektiven, welches gemeinsam Größeres erschafft. Dabei ergeben sich aus insgesamt über 4200 Kugeln fünf Blütenblätter Formen, welche wie bei einer Blume die Blüten, den Bühnenraum kunstvoll ummanteln. Die Kugeln können durch eingebaute LED einzeln farblich angesteuert werden und so mit den Besucher*innen interagieren und diese zu ihren Plätzen leiten.
Bloomopera stands for an aspiring, anti-discriminatory and cosmopolitan society, based on the different art forms of the Dortmund Opera. The installation symbolizes diversity, joie de vivre and the strength of a collective that creates something greater together. In the process, a total of over 4200 spheres create five petal shapes, which, like the blossoms of a flower, artfully encase the stage space. The spheres can be individually color-controlled by built-in LEDs and thus interact with the visitors and guide them to their seats.
